Local Cairns Girl, Tamaya Peressini was chosen by the Rotary Club of Cairns as one of 432 students to attend the National Youth Science Forum in Canberra back in January 2013. Tamaya was provided with an insight into some of the many options available to her in pursuing a career in Science.
The National Youth Science Forum, in Australia and overseas, “aims to give a deeper insight into science and its applications for the benefit of all mankind: and to develop a greater understanding between young people of all nations” (LIYSF). Students are selected based not just on their academic achievements, but also on their other interests and their social and communication skills. In the January NYSF forum, and throughout their NYSF experience, these young scientists acquire additional skills that will allow them to take their place as tomorrow’s leaders.
From the 432 students, approximately 35 places are available at 6 international forums around the world. 6 Australian students were invited to attend the Canada Wide Science Fair in Lethbridge, Alberta in May of which Tamaya was one.
Tamaya has demonstrated exceptional potential in the fields of science as well as potential leaderships skills and a strong community focus. We wish her all the best for her future career.
