The Rotary Club of Cairns has joined forces with the Far North Police district and The Weekend Post to launch the Police Officer of the Year awards.
Our Police walk the beat, patrol the streets and keep order around the Far North and now residents are able to acknowledge the efforts of the region’s police. Residents are able to nominate officers they believe have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
From the nominations received for July 2013, a committee from The Rotary Club of Cairns has chosen the inaugural monthly winner. Selecting a winner was difficult with several high calibre nominees. The final decision was made in line with the intention to recognise the valuable role that police play in our community and in keeping with Rotary’s own ideal of Service above Self.
Congratulations to Sen-Constable Glen Buckle.
There will be a monthly winner announced culminating in June next year with the Police Officer of the Year being awarded at the annual Police ball.
The Rotary Club of Cairns is very happy to be involved in the process of selecting monthly winners. It offers a way to recognise the great work done by Cairns police in keeping our community safe.
Anyone is able to nominate an officer including tourists and visitors to Cairns. Nomination forms can be obtained from your local police station or downloaded from the mypolice website by clicking this hyperlink: http://mypolice.qld.gov.au/cairns/files/2013/07/Far-North-District-Police-Officer.pdf
